As the crisp autumn air gives way to the promise of winter rounds (and yes, we’re already dreaming of spring greens), it’s the perfect time to share some thrilling updates from our ongoing course improvement projects.
We’re committed to delivering the best possible experience on our stunning Riverside and Canal Side courses, whether you’re navigating those tricky water hazards or perfecting your swing on our floodlit driving range.
Today, we’re diving into the latest progress on key areas of our beloved 18-hole Riverside Course: the 1st hole bunker, the 4th green, and the 3rd tee box.
These enhancements are all about elevating your game, preserving the courses, and ensuring every visit feels fresh and challenging.
Hole 1: Bunker Revival in Full Swing
Kicking off your round at Trent Lock is always memorable, with the 1st hole setting the tone for the scenic journey ahead along the River Trent.
We’re excited to report that redevelopment of the fairway bunker on the 1st is well underway.
The Kevin (Head Greenkeeper) and his team have cleared the site and begun shaping the new contours, incorporating improved drainage.
Hole 4: Elevated Green Ready for Its Turf
Great news: the green has been successfully elevated, and it’s now primed and ready for turfing.
This adjustment addresses subtle drainage issues that could crop up during wetter months, lifting the surface to promote healthier grass growth and more consistent putting surfaces.
The elevation brings the green into better harmony with the surrounding landscape offering a touch more forgiveness on uphill putts.
Hole 3: Tee Box Overhaul Just Around the Corner
And saving perhaps the most anticipated for last: works on the 3rd tee box are imminent. This par 3 has always demanded accuracy off the tee, with its narrow competition tee area flanked by mature trees. To make it more accessible and durable for all skill levels, we’re gearing up for a complete refresh (addressing the lumps and bumps) making the tee area substantially larger around 100-120Sqm.
Construction kicks off next week, minimising disruption to your rounds (we’ll have signage and alternative tees at the ready). The result? A tee deck that’s not only longer-lasting but also more comfortable underfoot.
Why These Changes Matter (And What’s Next?)
At Trent Lock, our philosophy is simple: evolve with the game while honoring what makes this place special. These updates are part of a broader £1m investment in course infrastructure aren’t just about fixing what’s there; they’re about future-proofing your enjoyment. Better bunkers, water hazards, elevated greens and refreshed tees keep things feeling new.
Looking ahead, keep an eye on our socials for photo updates and sneak peeks.
Whether you’re a member teeing off weekly, a visitor chasing that personal best, or part of a society plotting your next outing, thank you for being part of the Trent Lock family. Swing by the clubhouse for a coffee to chat about these changes in person—we’re here seven days a week.
All the best,
